The 2020 U.S. Presidential election is just around the corner.
From a local (Californian) standpoint it’s great to see Senator Kamala Harris, UC Hastings Law Class of ‘89, as the first woman of color to be nominated for national office by a major political party. This is welcome news at UC Hastings:
The summer of 2020 is coming to a close and unfortunately COVID-19 is still raging around the world with over 22 million cases, including ~5.5 million cases and 173,000+ deaths just in the U.S.
Despite the social and economic turmoil triggered by this pandemic, including 31 million people collecting some sort of unemployment benefits in the U.S., the S&P500 has reached a new high and Apple has become the first public U.S. company to reach a $2 trillion market cap. Go figure. And you know who else is valued at over a trillion dollars? Amazon, Microsoft and Alphabet. Add Facebook to that list and you get more than a fifth of the S&P 500’s market value. COVID-19 ain’t stopping Big Tech.
