I wrote about the ouster and reinstatement of OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman a few months ago. The result of that incident last November included the removal of three directors from OpenAI’s board (Helen Toner, Tasha McCauley and Ilya Sutskever), the addition of two new directors (Larry Summers and Bret Taylor, the latter named Chair) and the addition of a non-voting observer for Microsoft. There was also the promise of expanding the board with new “qualified and diverse” candidates, and convening an independent committee of the Board to oversee a review of the events, including an investigation by law firm WilmerHale.
Last Friday, OpenAI announced the completion of the review by WilmerHale, the return of Sam Altman to the board, and the election of three new board members.
